The Youth Parliament 2007
During the school year 2006/2007 two groups of Social Science Program students at Parkskolan
participated in the Youth Parliament. It is arranged by Riksdagen - the Swedish Parliament - every forth year in Stockholm. Pupils from all over Sweden gathered one day in the parliament in Stockholm. 167 representatives from upper secondary schools in Sweden were there. The aim is to give young people an insight in the democratic process.
As preparation every group had to write a bill in an optional subject and read a special government bill to which they were supposed to write a following bill. Their contributions were sent to the parliament in advance.
In the Youth Parliament the pupils participated in the different committees where the bills were discussed under guidance of members of parliament. In the afternoon the government´s bill was debated in the Chamber.
At the end members of parliament from all parties participated in the opportunity to ask question. Finally the best speaker was chosen.
The representetives from the two groupes from Parkskolan Irene Lindberg , Jonathan Lindqvist , Ulrika Westman and Emelie Melin thought it was a very interesting day.The discussions in the committees were fruitful and they thought that they had been a part of the democratic process.
The visit to the parliament gave the pupils a very good insight in the democratic work and it was a very good opportunity to meet other upper secondary students from all Sweden.
